Trinidad and Tobago to host League B of Concacaf Girls U-15 Championship

Concacaf has today announced that the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association is among three Member Associations including Costa Rica and Aruba, that will host the 2024 Concacaf Girls’ U-15 Championship. The fifth edition of the competition will take place from August 5 to 11, 2024, and will include group and knockout stage play in a three-league system (A, B, and C). 

The competition’s matches will be split between T&T, Costa Rica and Aruba. The Central American nation will host all League A matches, while Leagues B and C will play in Trinidad and Tobago and Aruba, respectively.

This is the first major tournament that the TTFA has confirmed as host nation under the leadership of President Kieron Edwards and his Executive. This will follow the hosting of the 2026 Opening World Cup qualifier against Grenada here on June 5th.

In an immediate response to Concacaf’s announcement, Edwards stated, “We are honored to host League B of the upcoming CONCACAF Girls U-15 Championship. Our executive team, along with the TTFA staff, are enthusiastic about collaborating closely with CONCACAF.

“Together, we aim to prioritize youth development and highlight the remarkable talent of participating nations. Being the newly installed executive of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association, one of our key pillars to success is to build and strengthen existing partnerships and to be given the opportunity to host the league, only augurs well for the future of our beloved sport,” Edwards said.

The current pool of Trinidad and Tobago U-15 girls have been in training under the High Performance program, overseen by Marlon Charles. Further information on the squad and technical staff for the Girls U-15 Squad for the Concacaf championshipwill be disclosed in due course.

All three leagues will include a group stage and a direct elimination knockout stage, and each will crown its champion. The number of teams per league will be determined based on the Concacaf Women’s U-17 Rankings of March 2024 and the final number of participants. 

To date, 35 Concacaf Member Associations have expressed interest in participating. These Member Associations are (in alphabetical order): Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curaçao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States, and the US Virgin Islands.

Further details regarding the competition format will be announced in the coming weeks.

The last edition of the Concacaf Girls’ U-15 Championship took place in 2022 in Tampa, FL, USA. Twenty teams participated in the tournament (divided into two Leagues). In League A, the United States claimed a third straight title after defeating Canada 4-1 in the Final. Nicaragua was crowned winners of League B following a 3-1 win over Aruba.
