Senior Women Set for Crucial Away Test Against Honduras in Concacaf Qualifiers
The Trinidad and Tobago Senior Women’s National Team will continue its Concacaf Women’s Qualifiers campaign tonight when they face Honduras at the Estadio Chelato Uclés in Tegucigalpa from 9:00 p.m. (TT time). There will be a live broadcast on ESPN and Disney+
The Women Warriors enter the contest on the back of a dominant 5-0 victory over Barbados at the Kensington Oval on December 1, and will be aiming to secure a second consecutive win in the group.
Focused Preparation
Head Coach Damian Briggs and his staff oversaw a six-day preparatory camp in Panama ahead of the fixture, designed to fine-tune the team’s tactical approach while acclimatising to regional conditions.
Speaking ahead of the match, Briggs expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness.
“We’re quite positive that we can come away with the result we want from this game,” Briggs said. “Preparations have gone well. The players have adapted to the conditions, the climate, and everything around us. They’ve embraced the messages about how we want to play, and we believe we are on track.”
Briggs emphasised the importance of timing the team’s peak performance correctly.
“As a coach, you always want your players to continue improving physically, but we’re managing that carefully. We don’t want to peak too early — we want to peak at the right time. The camp in Panama helped with that, and now it’s about bringing everything together on match night.”
Positive Squad Atmosphere
The head coach also highlighted the squad’s unity and maturity heading into the encounter.
“The mood in camp is buzzing. The players are excited and have handled challenges well. It’s encouraging to see the more experienced players supporting the younger ones. There’s a strong belief in what we’re here to achieve.”
Captain Kennya Cordner leads a balanced squad blending experience and youth as T&T targets a vital three points on the road.
Group Context
Honduras will be eager to respond after suffering a 3-0 defeat to El Salvador in their opening match. A victory for Trinidad and Tobago would place the Women Warriors in a strong position heading into their lone home fixture of this round against El Salvador in April.
