Yorke comments on Gold Cup draw
Head Coach Dwight Yorke is looking forward to Trinidad and Tobago’s participation in this year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, following their World Cup qualifiers against St. Kitts/Nevis and Costa Rica in early June.
The 18th edition of CONCACAF’s premier men’s national team tournament will take place from June 14 to July 6, across 14 stadiums in 11 metropolitan areas throughout the United States and Canada.
“We know the Gold Cup schedule is a hectic one. We’re kicking things off against the USA, followed by games against Haiti and Saudi Arabia,” noted Yorke, who was appointed as T&T head coach in November. The 2025 Gold Cup features 16 nations: the top 15 from the CONCACAF region, along with guest team Saudi Arabia. The tournament begins with the group stage.
Yorke, the former Manchester United striker, believes the Gold Cup will be a key part of preparing his Soca Warriors for more World Cup action later this year.
The tournament follows T&T’s participation in the Unity Cup next month, which also features Jamaica, Ghana and Nigeria. After that, attention will turn to World Cup qualifiers and then the Gold Cup.
“We’re definitely looking forward to the challenge,” stated Yorke, adding, “While we also have the Unity Cup coming up, our major focus right now is the World Cup qualifiers on June 6 and 10.”
He also emphasised the importance of fielding his strongest possible squad for the upcoming competitions. “My staff and I will be closely monitoring all available players to build the best possible team. We’ll be planning carefully to ensure we’re well-prepared for what lies ahead.”
