T&T Girls into Semis

Trinidad and Tobago’s U-15 Girls completed a 5-0 Victory over Grenada in their final Group Stage match today at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. They finished on 7 points and are into the Semi Final of the Concacaf Girls U-15 Championship.

T&T take on their Spanish-speaking rivals Dominican Republic from 9 a.m. at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in the first semi-final of League B. The Dominican Republic have a 100% record after three matches, and are coming off a dominant 3-0 win over Bermuda yesterday.

Today’s other semi-final matches Group E winners Honduras and Group D champions Guatemala. All four semi-finalists are unbeaten. The finals and third-place playoffs of the tournament take place on Sunday.

T&T completed their Group C programme with a dominating 5-0 beating of Grenada. Trendsetter Hawks defender Hackeemar Goodridge gave T&T a quick lead when opening the scoring in just the third minute, with a powerful shot from mid-range, and ten minutes later, Scarlett Cole (Pro Series FC) doubled the score with a downward header to the corner.

Three more goals came in an equally dominant second half for T&T. Taya Williams was bundled over inside the penalty area, and the very tiny Shemaiah Toussaint (Cox Football Academy) converted in the 48th minute for 3-0, while Alliyah Baptiste (Jewels SC) converted a low rebound for 4-0 in the 61st minute.

Mia Lee Chong (67th), the very talented and influential USA-based Orlando City Academy midfielder, got the final goal, when floating a long free-kick, which slipped through the goalkeeper’s fingers for 5-0.

Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago’s reserves, the High-Performance team, missed out on a semi-final spot after losing for the first time. The High-Performance squad ended Group D in second spot after losing their top-of-the-table clash 1-0 to Guatemala. However, the local girls gave D winners Guatemala their most difficult outing.

Trinidad and Tobago’s girls’ Under-15 football teams got their first wins in League B of the 2024 Concacaf Girls’ Under-15 Championship on August 6 when they got respective 1-0 victories over St Kitts and Nevis and Curacao at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo.

This country has a National under-15 and a High Performance team in the week-long tournament, which is the second tier of Concacaf’s three-tiered system. Both teams were held scoreless on the opening day of the competition on August 5 against USVI and Antigua and Barbuda respectively.

On the second day of action, though, both teams managed to find their scoring boots to grab their maiden wins to move to four points apiece.

In the second of four games played at the Mucurapo venue on August 6, the High Performance team got a late goal in the 74th minute as they earned victory over St Kitts and Nevis, who were humbled 8-0 by Guatemala on the first day of action.

In their battle against Curacao, who opened their campaign with a 3-0 win over Grenada, TT’s under-15 team got their slender 1-0 victory courtesy of a goal from defender Taya Williams.

With the top team from each group advancing to the League B semifinals on August 9, the national under-15 team and their High Performance peers will be facing critical matchups when they play their final group C and group D games on August 8.

The High Performance team will take on the free-scoring Guatemala team from 11 am in Mucurapo on August 8, with the TT under-15s playing Grenada from 3 pm in the last of four groups matches at the venue on that day.
