T&T Men seek positive response vs Gabon
Trinidad and Tobago’s Senior Men’s National Team will be aiming for a positive response when they face Gabon in their second match of the FIFA Series 2026 on Monday at the Pakhtakor Central Stadium in Tashkent.
Kick-off is set for 6:00 a.m. (TT time), as the Warriors look to rebound from their opening 4–1 defeat to Venezuela.
The fixture forms part of the FIFA Series initiative, which brings together nations from different confederations for international competition, with matches in Tashkent featuring Trinidad and Tobago, Gabon, Venezuela and hosts Uzbekistan.
Trinidad and Tobago showed promising signs in their opener, taking the lead before Venezuela rallied to secure the win. Meanwhile, Gabon will also be seeking improvement after suffering a 3–1 loss to Uzbekistan in their opening encounter.
Interim head coach Derek King believes his team has taken important lessons from the first outing and is focused on delivering a stronger overall performance.
“After reviewing the last game, we’ve taken a balanced approach. There were some very good moments, especially in the first 60 minutes where we were organized, disciplined, and showed real bravery in our play. Going forward and taking the lead was a positive for us,” King said.

“At the same time, we’ve addressed the areas that cost us. At this level, concentration, decision making and game management over the full 90 minutes are critical. We know we have to be more consistent as a team.”
King also highlighted the positive reaction from the squad in training following the defeat.
“The response from the players has been excellent. The attitude in training has been focused, honest, and committed. That’s exactly what you want to see after a difficult result,” he added.
Looking ahead to the contest against the African nation, King expects another stern test but remains confident in his team’s ability to respond.
“Against Gabon, we expect another competitive game. Our objective is to build on the positives, correct our mistakes and show improvement in our overall performance.
“We remain confident in this group. The message is simple—stay disciplined, be brave, and compete for the full 90 minutes.”
King further emphasized the importance of character as the team continues its development.
“The players have shown strong character. Football is about how you respond, and this group is motivated to improve and show a better version of ourselves.”
Monday’s encounter will be the first-ever meeting between Trinidad and Tobago and Gabon at the senior international level, adding another layer of intrigue to the contest.
There will be a live broadcast on FIFA+.
