T&T hosts FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma

Trinidad and Tobago is currently playing host to a dynamic gathering of technical leaders from 24 countries as part of Edition 2 of the FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma. This prestigious international programme, developed by FIFA, focuses on equipping Technical Leaders with the knowledge, tools, and strategies needed to lead and influence the future of football globally.

This latest block, taking place in Trinidad and Tobago, is centred on the theme: “Amateur Football: Leading and Influencing the Game.” The week-long event delves into a range of critical areas vital to the grassroots and amateur levels of the sport, including safeguarding, governance and leadership, communication skills, and insights from the Amateur Football Environment Analysis report.

Jamie Houchen, FIFA Head of Technical Leadership, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating:

“We believe the FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma will become the globally recognised qualification for Technical Leaders and help produce the very highest quality of graduates to lead football around the world. Amateur football is crucial to the long-term health of the game across the globe.”

Participants in the Diploma are being exposed to a diverse curriculum across five core domains: leadership, high performance, coach education, amateur football, and management. The current module places a strong focus on how technical leaders can champion and elevate amateur football in their respective countries, using real-world case studies and collaborative learning to play their part in Growing the Game.

Trinidad and Tobago was selected as a host nation for this module not only for its strategic location in the Caribbean but also for its vibrant football culture and commitment to development. Under the leadership of Technical Director Anton Corneal, the country has provided an engaging and inspiring setting for learning, discussion, and cultural exchange.

“Trinidad and Tobago, through the leadership of Anton Corneal, has proven to be an ideal location in the Caribbean to explore this crucial aspect of the game. It offers not only a unique perspective on grassroots football but also an opportunity to learn from its rich football culture and leadership approach,” Houchen added.

The current cohort of Technical Leaders will reconvene in Zurich, Switzerland, this December for the final module of the Diploma, marking the culmination of their journey towards becoming global leaders in the sport.

Among the countries represented through their technical directors, women’s football technical directors, or coach education project managers, among other roles are: Finland, United States, Nigeria, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, St Vincent/Grenadines, India, Suriname, Jordan, Japan, Poland, Ecuador, Peru, Tanzania, Switzerland, Malaysia, Namibia, Hungary, Belgium, Fiji and Conmebol.
