TTFA Appoints Derek King as Senior Men’s Head Coach
The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association is today confirming the appointment of Derek King as Head Coach of the Senior Men’s National Team on a full-time basis.
King has been given a one-year contract in the first instance, with an option for renewal.

Having stepped into the role as interim head coach in March, and previously serving in the position during 2024 as well as in an assistant coaching capacity in past campaigns, this marks the first time King has been entrusted with the job on a permanent basis.
TTFA President Kieron Edwards said the decision reflects both continuity and confidence in King’s understanding of the national programme.
“Derek has been part of the environment and understands what is required at this level. He has shown a steady hand during his time in charge and we believe this is the right moment to give him the responsibility on a full-time basis. We are looking for consistency, discipline and a clear direction for the team, and we expect Derek to continue building in that regard.”

King now turns his attention to a busy international window, with his first assignment being an international friendly against South Korea on May 30 in Utah, followed by an away fixture against Russia on June 9.
The TTFA extends its full support to King and his staff as preparations continue for the upcoming matches and the broader competitive calendar ahead, beginning with the Concacaf Nations League in September.
In an immediate response to the appointment, King said, “It is an honor to lead the Trinidad and Tobago Men’s National Team. Together with the players and staff, we will work to build a clear identity, compete at the highest level and make the nation proud.
“I fully understand the responsibility that comes with representing our country, and I embrace that challenge with focus and determination.
“My commitment is to build a disciplined, hardworking and competitive team. We will demand high standards, accountability and professionalism at every level, both on and off the field.
“Our objective is simple to compete, to improve and to make the people of Trinidad and Tobago proud. We will work tirelessly to ensure that every time we step onto the field, we represent the passion and spirit of our nation.”
King has not only won domestic Professional League titles with Joe Public and North East Stars but also captured the 2014 Caribbean Men’s Under 20 title as head coach of T&T.
Having served as assistant coach to Stephen Hart at national team level, he also served on the same staff as the latter’s assistant with Halifax Wanderers in the Canadian Premier League.
